About Me

Norwegian Trumpet and Flugelhornist Roy Nikolaisen has been active on the Jazz scene now for near 30 years. See www.roynikolaisen.com. Playing within many styles of jazz, mostly in Norway, Roy is more than ready for a broader International jazz audience. Roy has played with “all” the Norwegian jazz artists, including (a few names): Pianist Jon Balke, Per Husby, Magne Arnesen, Egil Kapstad. Guitarist Staffan William-Olsson, Halvard Kausland, Jacob Young. Bassist Terje Venaas, Frode Berg, Olaf “Knerten” Kamfjord. Drummer Andreas Bye, Audun Kleive, Roger Johansen. Saxophonist Vidar Johansen, Knut Riisnæs, Frode Nymo, Sigurd Køhn (RIP), Dave Edge. Vocalist Karin Krog, Elin Rosseland, Marit Sandvik, Nora Brockstedt, and the famous Poet Jan Erik Vold. Roy is a member of the Italian group Rino Arbore Quartet (check on Spotify etc.). Collaborations also in miscellaneous groups together with artists like Paul Weeden (RIP), Alan Barnes (UK), David Murray (US), John Surman (UK/NO), Bobby Shew (US), Matt Criscuolo (US). I love jazz because...I grew up with jazz. My father also played the Trumpet. I was first exposed to jazz...as newborn I met [musician name]...Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Kurt Rosenwinkel The best show I ever attended was...Freddie Hubbard live in Norway 1989 The first jazz record I bought was... My advice to new listeners...listen to the feeling of the music rather than the details Or whatever else you have in mind.
