Rebekah Ruiz
Having grown up with jazz, this genre has become Rebekah's passion...
About Me
Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, jazz vocalist Rebekah Ruiz
has been destined to be in the spotlight. Singing since she was a
child, Ruiz was exposed to and developed a great love for the genre at
a very young age by her father, who always had Sinatra, Nat King Cole,
or Johnny Mathis playing. By the age of 15, it was undeniable that
Rebekah possessed a unique gift: her vocal range and raw, natural
talent shown through at local venues. Shortly thereafter, Ruiz moved
to California, where her dream of performing jazz for a broader
audience came true.
Rebekah has been performing consistently at jazz clubs and local
restaurants in the Sacramento area. She went on to perform in the
Sacramento Jazz Festival and Jubilee for a several years. To date,
Ruiz continues to reach out to other festivals and venues in general
throughout the country to broaden her exposure and fan base.
Rebekah has performed with renowned pianist, Jeff Franzel at Dylan's
Candy Bar in New York City. The venue was staged for a kick-starter
campaign benefiting The Ali Forney Center, an organization that
focuses on housing homeless youth. She was excited to perform yet
again, a couple of months later, for the Ali Forney Center annual
black tie gala “A Place at the Table”, that took place in New York
City on October 25, 2013.
Currently, Rebekah is looking forward to another trip to NYC, as she
will be performing at the Metropolitan Room, July 9th, 2014. She is
excited to be playing yet, another wonderful evening of music with
some very talented musicians.
My Jazz Story
Having been played in my house constantly while growing up, jazz quickly became my love and passion. It makes my heart come alive like no other music. I love performing and making hearts happy with my music. The first jazz record of my own was Frank Sinatra, "In the Wee Small Hours". I love it so much it got completely worn out. Oh that voice! If I were to compare myself as a vocalist with anyone, it would be Ms. Nancy Wilson. Her passion and sincerity when she sings is so motivating for me. She tells a story when she sings and you can't help but listen.
