My Jazz Story

I love jazz because of it's wonderful improvisations I was first exposed to jazz by my parents, as a 5-6 year old in the late 1960s. Louis Armstrong had toured Uganda earlier in the 1960s. I met [musician name]... The best show I ever attended was Talib Kibwe (sponsored by the US Embassy in Kampala), 1992. The first jazz record I bought was Miles Davis "Birth Of The Cool" My advice to new listeners: Listen to Miles Davis "Kind Of Blue" and jazz pianists, like Ellis Marsalis, Keith Jarrett and smooth saxophonists like Grover Washington and Gerald Albright. Or whatever else you have in mind.

My House Concert Story

Some fine young Ugandan musicians, led by Polycarp Kyagulanyi, have recently teamed up as the Kampala Jazz Orchestra. Their debut concert in April 2023, at the Uganda National Cultural Centre, Kampala, Uganda, blew us all away!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-IDNd79NwU&pp=ygUWS2FtcGFsYSBqYXp6IG9yY2hlc3RyYQ%3D%3D
