About Me
One of the much sought-after Lithuanian jazz musicians, Valerijus Ramoška is a virtuoso trumpeter whose broad knowledge of modern jazz styles combines with dexterity in a wide range of expressive means. With his trumpet's tone lively and clear, and flugelhorn's cantilena smooth and soothing, he is the most resourceful improviser and is often responsible for emotional outbursts within the group. He is a distinguished soloist and a flexible ensemble member, who can adapt to various forms of leadership and musical styles. With various ensembles he has been seen on Lithuanian jazz scene since 1990, and with Dainius Pulauskas Group since its inception in 1994. Winning wide public acclaim as a trumpeter with this group, he also performs with other groups ranging from duos and chamber formations to big bands. He is a soloist with the Lithuanian Radio and Television Big Band and is often invited to perform with the Kaunas Big Band. The trumpeter Valerijus Ramoška was born 1965 in Kaunas; he grew up and was educated in a small town of Trakai, located close to the capital city, Vilnius. He graduated from Trakai School of Arts there. He studied classical trumpet at Vilnius J.Tallat – Kelpša High er School of Music, the present Lithuanian Conservatory and Lithuanian Conservatory, the present LMTA (Lithuanian Academy of Arts and Theatre). However, V.Ramoška remained a faithfull associate of D.Pulauskas ever since 1990. The trumpeter played with the Oktava ensemble, conducted by D.Pulauskas. And after the sextet of D.Pulauskas was formed, V.Ramoška became its inseparable part. Here he mastered jazzrock, fusion and other styles. He has recorded four CD's with this band: Penetration(1997),1999(1999),Autumn Suite(1999),Colours(2004)and one DVD:Trajectories(2004); they have given concerts not only in Lithuanian but also in prestigious Jazz Festivals of Europe and Asia. He has played in famous jazz clubs in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany and Russia. The wonderful concord between V.Ramoška and D.Pulauskas revealed itself in a CD Parallel Lines(2001) recorded by this duet. Still today these two professional musicians would be difficult to imagine separately. V.Ramoška also plays in a new Traffic quartet, established only in 2004, conducted by a well-known saxophonist L.Mockūnas. Famous jazzmen of the world, namely Ryo Kawasaki, Brian Melvin, Denis Pashkevich, Toivo Unt, play in the latter band as well.
