My Jazz Story

Listening to jazz is exciting, always. Playing jazz is all encompassing, pure joy.

My House Concert Story

My brother Ed August, father of bassist Gregg August, would have yearly house concerts at his Schoharie NY Wedgewood Inn BnB. Gregg brought many musicians up from NY City -JD Allen, Rudy Royston, Arturo O'Farrill, Jim Seeley, Joe Gonzales, Luis Perdomo, Bruce Barth, Ivan Renta, Warren Bernhardt, Sheila Jordan, Lee Shaw. Ed lost his first Steinway piano in the Irene hurricane that flooded his house with 5 feet of water in the living room. He replaced it with a Steinway that had some fun history. Lana Turner's husband had bought for her, then our local NY Congressman/Senator Jim Tedisco's wife bought it and eventually sold it to Ed after his house was repaired from the flood. Lana's picture is on the fireplace mantel. Preparation for these concerts included sending emails and snail mail to the jazz lovers, to get a head count and prepay. Ed charged $25 /pp to pay the musicians, chair rental, and pizza! We'd have 30-40 people at the most. But being so close to the musicians was wonderful!! House Concerts YES!!
