About Me
Migiwa "Miggy" Miyajima is a New York-based composer, pianist, and six-time Grammy-nominated producer who leads the 17-piece Miggy Augmented Orchestra to create emotionally captivating music that blends jazz with her Japanese heritage.
Migiwa “Miggy” Miyajima is a New York–based composer, pianist, and six-time Grammy- nominated producer, including two nominations with The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. As a 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake survivor, she advocates resilience and hope through large-scale compositions and performances. Through memorable melodies, intricate harmonic colors, and structures shaped by the deliberate interplay of rests and riffs, and through blending jazz, classical, pop, and soul with her Japanese heritage, she creates music that lingers. Her performances captivate, drawing the audience into a vivid, emotional arc. She leads both the 17-piece Miggy Augmented Orchestra and the four- piece acoustic band KYMN, and has collaborated with luminaries such as NEA Jazz Master Slide Hampton, Dick Oatts, and Mike Holober. Her accolades include the 2020 NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music, and Theatre and the 2024 MacDowell Fellowship. She was one of the five producers of the 2025 “Celebrating Jim McNeely” concert.
