About Me
In a career spanning three decades, Michael Blake has released over a dozen CDs with
many leading musicians in the field of jazz and creative music.
His work embraces dimensions of sound beyond the traditional but is firmly rooted in
structures that define the art form of jazz. On both the tenor and soprano saxophones,
Blake continues to refine and develop a personal style that is immediately identifiable.
His compositions are often beyond category, reflecting and refracting influences that
span the world of music and probe the imagination. A constant on the New York music
scene, Michael is also actively touring and performing with musicians from his
hometown of Vancouver and has found a kinship with many players from Europe.
Michael Blake is also known for his contributions to projects led by such
contemporaries as Ben Allison, Steven Bernstein and John Lurie.
