Max Carola

About Me

Max started to play very early studying classical guitar for a brief time, jumping to jazz thanks to his father. He started to play electric in 1973 learning from Wes Montgomery records. He was also very interested in the work of Carlos Santana and very curious about all music styles. But it was when he heard John McLaughlin that max decided to become a professional guitarist and started to play in clubs with friends. In 1975 Max had his first payed gig and after that has been a long stream. In 1976 He sterted tiuring with Patricia Lopez and after that with Pino Daniele, Eugenio Bennato, Nino Buonocore and many others. But he was also cultivating his passion, the free jazz, learning from the big names of the Jazz. After a series of seminars with Martin Joseph, Giorgio Gaslini, Luigi Nono, Daniele Lombardi and later with Mike Stern Max started to compose and to collaborate with the neapolitan jazz scene, ending up playing with the group “Aeropago” performing also as bass player. But Max has also been a proper pop star with his group “Zooming On The Zoo”. He signed with Casablanca with a first single “WHEN YOU TURN OFF THE LIGHT” combining the sound of jazz with the pop and dance scene, with singer Gabriella Rinaldi, his wife and beloved voice of all his musical works since then. Now Max is mostly producing and engineering but still performing in clubs and venues. He produced, among others, a long string of jazz neapolitan artists including Pietro Condorelli, Francesco D'Errico, Antonio Onorato, Sonora Art Quartet, Blue Stuff, Sonik Ensemble, Passepartout.
