About Me

Italian composer, pianist, accordionist, based in Paris

Maurizio Minardi is an Italian composer, pianist, and accordionist currently based in Paris. Throughout his career, he has explored a diverse range of musical genres, including classical, world music, jazz, neoclassical, and electronic music. To date, he has released 15 albums across Italy, England, and France. He studied piano, organ, and composition at the Conservatorio Martini (Bologna, Italy). He later developed his jazz language through workshops with Barry Harris, Aaron Parks, Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, Danilo Rea, and Simone Zanchini. In his early years, Maurizio founded, composed for, and arranged music for the electro-pop group Oz (4 albums) and the jazz-tango ensemble Quartetto Magritte (3 albums). In 2011, he released the electroacoustic album Works to critical acclaim. The following year, Italian broadcaster RAI featured Tangology, his collection of original compositions inspired by tango and electronic music. His composition La Sonnambula was also included in the soundtrack of the 2010 American film Mango Tango. In 2012, Maurizio toured with the Royal Shakespeare Company and recorded the album My Piano Trio in London. This was followed by The Cook, the Clown, the Monk and the Accordionist (2013), an accordion quartet album recorded in London. In 2014, he opened for Suzanne Vega at the Würzburg Festival in Germany. His 2015 release Piano Ambulance led to a UK tour supported by Arts Council England and Jazz Services. The following year, he joined the Akkordeonale Germany Tour, performing 34 concerts across the country. Since relocating to Paris in 2017, Maurizio has collaborated with violinist and composer Gabriel Bismut, resulting in the 2020 album Le Chat Brel, produced under the artistic direction of Marc Berthoumieux. More recently, he presented INVISIBLE, a piano trio project with Thomas Delor (drums) and Maurizio Congiu (double bass). In 2025, he released an acoustic piano felt album, After The Rain, enriched with electronic textures. In 2026 he recorded a new piano solo album, 'Piano Minimo', which is due for release soon.
