My Jazz Story
Published on: 2017-06-02
The first time I heard jazz guitar it was coming from a Wes Montgomery album. Even though I was mostly a folk-rocker it sounded great. That was my first step
into progressive music of many forms—actually, anything that wasn't inside the popular definition of music at any given time.
My musical palette has grown and reached well beyond any one genre. That being said, I am more comfortable now than I have been ever before being identified
as a 'jazz' musician. In fact, my studying jazz guitar and working through the technical and theoretical aspects of the music opened my mind and my heart to new
ides and concepts in music.
My determination is that, no matter what the setting, I still play and sound like Matt Richards.
