About Me

"Marty Krystall is one of the most passionate, powerfully swinging, and just plain unselfconciously original players in all of jazz." - Nat Hentoff.

Known for his far-reaching improvisations and international tours with Buell Neidlinger playing original material as well as the works of Thelonious Monk and Herbie Nichols, Krystall has been at the front of the avant-garde jazz scene in Los Angeles since 1972. He has recorded and/or performed with Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Jaco Pastorius, Charlie Haden, Steve Lacy, Peter Serkin, Aretha Franklin, Roy Orbison, Bonnie Raitt and Frank Zappa. Currently, Marty is featured on K2B2 Records “Liquid Krystall Displayed” with Jerry Peters on Hammond B3, Calvin Keys on guitar, Buell Neidlinger on bass and Peter Erskine on drums. His next release due September 9, 2013 is Moments Magical with J.P. Maramba, bass; Sinclair Lott, drums; and Bob Conti on percussion.
