Julian Costello

London based Saxophonist and Educator who approaches life with humour.

About Me

Julian Costello is a London-based saxophonist, composer and teacher. Julian writes the music for the Julian Costello Quartet and for Vertigo. Julian Costello Quartet features John Turville piano, Andy Hamill double bass and Tom Hooper Drums. They have recently released a new album on 33jazz records called And All The Birds Were Set Free which has special guest Georgia Mancio on vocals. ”Costello has produced a set of varied and consistently melodic compositions for the quartet & their guest, vocalist Georgia Mancio, to work with. The standard of the playing is excellent throughout”. The Jazzmann

Vertigo is a new project with an interesting line up of Stefanos Tsourelis guitar and oud, Natalie Rozario cello and vocals and Sophie Alloway on drums. Vertigo is also joined on their new album by Iqbal Pathan on tabla and David Beebee on double bass. Vertigo were recently recorded live in session for BBC Radio 3 Intune. They performed three of Julian's tunes and were interviewed by Sean Rafferty. ”Costello is a superbly gifted composer with a songwriter’s ear for melody”. UK Jazz News

The previous two albums Connections: Without Borders and Transitions were also on 33 Jazz records. “Once in a while, an album like this appears on the horizon, becoming the unputdownable “Earworm” that Costello portrays at the heart of his colourful recording”. Adrian Pallant London Jazz News

The groups have been getting many excellent reviews in the Uk, France, Italy, Poland, Norway and the US. Please check our website www.juliancostello.co.uk
