Joe Marino is an accomplished guitarist, having performed in a number of
Detroit area bands during his career. His style of music ranges from
Jazz, Blues, Funk, Latin, and Classic Rock. His style is a mix of
varied influences, such as Larry Carlton, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton,
Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kenny Burrell, and Wes Montgomery.
Joe studied guitar and music at an early age, attending The Massimino
Music Studio in Detroit. There he performed in a number of concerts
during his years of study. Joe later went on to teach guitar at
Massimino's Studio and became the Assistant Manager there.
One of Joe's most notable groups was The Techniques, a local group
managed by Art Cervi touring with local personality Robin Seymour. The
Techniques recorded the Bumble Bee Shuffle at Golden World Studios in
Detroit and was featured on CKLW's Robin Seymour Swingin' Time
television program. Later Joe was instrumental in forming the group
New Hope, which became a well known and sought after 8 piece group
around Metro Detroit and the Midwest. New Hope featured a horn section
along with singer Marc Ryder, Mitch Ryder's brother, and keyboardist
Rick Manasa who later toured with Bob Seger. Some of the local groups
included in Joe's musical career are The York-Taylor Blues Band, Rondell
and the Casuals, The Nirvana, and One Step. Later groups included
playing with notable jazz harmonica and guitarist Joe Messina of the
Funk Brothers fame.
Joe's current project is Eastside Jam, a collaborative Jazz/Funk/Blues
group featuring some of the local area's finest blues, jazz, and funk
musicians and reuniting him with The Techniques drummer Dennis Biernott.
Other Eastside Jam members include keyboardist Jerry Bonato, noted
saxophonist Frank Tatarelli, and bassist Michele Hobbs.
