About Me

Jarrett Gilgore (b. 1992, Philadelphia) is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and teacher who splits his time between Kathmandu, Mexico City, and Baltimore. He performs internationally with a variety of ensembles including a new solo project called Phét Phét Phét, Washington D.C. free-music trio, Heart of the Ghost, a new duo with Anthony Pirog, and with an array of solo artists. Gilgore has worked with many great artists in the experimental, jazz, and indie worlds including Anna & Elizabeth, Dan Deacon, Efterklang, Jaimie Branch, Laraaji, Lonnie Holley, Mabe Fratti, Susan Alcorn, Tony Malaby, and filmmaker Vincent Moon. He has toured extensively in North America and Europe, and his original music and contributions as a saxophonist have been featured by NPR, New York Times, Pitchfork, The Wire, The Guardian, Washington Post, WFMU and KEXP. As a teacher, Jarrett gives lessons and workshops on woodwinds, improvisation, and meditation. He has developed techniques and exercises for musicians and non-musicians alike that increase awareness, concentration, compassion, and vulnerability. He has taught workshops at colleges, high-schools, and DIY spaces throughout the United States and Mexico. When he's not on tour or in retreat from the world, he meets with students privately in Mexico City and on Zoom.
