Jackie Myers is a Kansas City jazz pianist, composer, producer and vocalist. With an academic foundation that includes studying under Gabrial Espinosa at Grinnell College, studying jazz improvisation with Gary Burton at Berklee School of Music, and then studying with Bobby Watson at UMKC (M.A.), Myers possesses a rare technical mastery that fuels her creative experimentation. Before establishing herself as a cornerstone of the Kansas City jazz community, Myers spent nearly a decade touring the competitive Austin, Texas indie music circuit. Since arriving in Kansas City, she has maintained a prolific presence, performed at top-tier venues including The Blue Room, The Folly, Club 1909 and the Green Lady Lounge. During the course of her musical adventures, Jackie has been lucky enough to share the stage with an assortment of heroes, such as Bobby Watson (Jazz Messengers), Bob Bowman (Thad Jones), and Bob Margolin (Muddy Waters). Jackie also held the year-long, audition-based appointment offered by Riff Generation - an offshoot of the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra in 2023, as well as the position of Music Director and piano player for the nationally syndicated radio show 12th Street Jump, which was taped live in Kansas City until 2020. Beyond the bandstand, Myers boasts a catalog of 8 albums, the most recent of which, What About The Butterfly, pushes jazz boundaries, showcasing a fusion of modern composition techniques and improvisation. The concept is modern vocal jazz paired with microtonal string arrangements. The record features some of the best in the scene, including one of Jackie’s mentors and musical heroes, Bobby Watson (Jazz Messengers). The album also featured a stunning performance of Jackie’s microtonal string arrangments by The Fountain City String Quartet and a guest appearance by Iowa City’s own Blake Shaw on several tracks. What About The Butterfly was signed to 577 Records out of New York, NY soon after the recordings were finished. Following a sold-out release at the Blue Room, the album spent nine consecutive weeks on the Roots Music Weekly Top 50 Jazz Album Charts and was number 3 in the NACC Top Jazz Adds Chart for the week of 4/23/25. The success of the album enabled several festival bookings: Boulevardia Music Festival (2025), Kansas City Blues & Jazz Festival (2025) and Tongyeong Fringe Festival in South Korea (2026); as well as a handful of prestigious regional jazz club bookings - Elephant Room in Austin TX (2025 & 2026), The Lowdown in Tulsa OK (2025 & 2026) and Noce in Des Moines [2026]). Jackie is currently working on another album and steadily expanding her festival bookings and tour circuits. In additional to her pursuits as a jazz musician, Jackie is also an accomplished composer. She routinely expands her creative footprint into film and has been commissioned to write several livescores for silent film, a score for an original film (In Prism), a movie trailer (Sapiens), the theme to the television show Kansas City Limits, the score for What-If Puppet’s T-Rex Took My Toothbrush and most recently a modern rondo called Emily Spinach comissioned by Charlotte Street House Concerts.
