My Jazz Story

I love jazz because you have a constant mountain to climb when it comes to exploring and creating. Each day is new discovery and education by playing your instrument, listening to records, or studying a particular chord, progression, song, or musical element. I was first exposed to jazz by my Uncle who gave me four albums to listen to: Now He Sings, Now He Sobs, Blue Trane, Kind of Blue, and Three Quartets I've worked with Eric DeFade, Dave Brown, Tim Wolfe Jr., Glenn Shaft, Tim Powell, Dave Morgan, and others. The best shows I ever attended were Pat Metheny Unity Band, Newport Jazz Festival, and Snarky Puppy at The World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. The first jazz record I bought was Pat Metheny Unit Band. My advice to new listeners; give it time and keep listening. Your ear changes and you understand more. Don't write it off if you don't like it at first. I've thought something was bad sounding and then a few years later I stumble upon it again and think, "wow, I really like that sound of that... Why didn't I use this before?!"
