Jazz Guitarist | Composer | Music Student
Hazen Wang is a jazz guitarist and composer from Xi’an, Shaanxi, China. He is currently based in Columbia, South Carolina, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of South Carolina. He began playing guitar at the age of ten and studied jazz guitar with Chinese jazz guitarist and educator Zhang Boyuan , continuing to develop his skills in jazz improvisation, harmony, rhythm, and ensemble performance under his guidance. In 2025, Hazen continued his musical education in the United States. He first studied music production at Musicians Institute in California, where he gained experience in recording, arranging, songwriting, and music production. He is now continuing his jazz studies at the University of South Carolina, where he studies with the jazz faculty and performs in ensembles. His musical interests include bebop, swing, bossa nova, hard bop, and contemporary jazz, as well as R&B and neo- soul. He draws inspiration from artists such as Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Grant Green, George Benson, Pat Metheny, and John Scofield. Looking ahead, Hazen plans to pursue graduate studies in jazz performance while continuing to develop as a performer, composer, and educator.
