George Kahn carries West Coast Jazz into the 21st Century

About Me

Pianist and composer George Kahn is one of the few living jazz artists who captures the West Coast sound of the 1950s and 60s. Drawing inspiration from legendary figures like Dave Brubeck, Ramsey Lewis, Joe Sample, Vince Guaraldi, and Wynton Kelly, Kahn's music possesses a contemporary edge while staying true to the spirit of jazz. His performances range from instrumental “hard-bop” bands to the vocal group Jazz & Blues Revue, featuring Courtney Lemmon, Gina Saputo and Crystal Starr. Kahn's discography boasts a wide range of impressive works, including the chart-topping “DreamCatcher,” released by the George Kahn Quartet in 2020. DreamCatcher features all-star band mates Pat Kelley on guitar and Alex Acuna (of Weather Report fame) on a romp through cover tunes new and old, punctuated with Kahn's originals. Now George and the Jazz & Blues Revue invite you to their HOLIDAY SOIREE, an album of jazz and blues holiday tunes to brighten your holiday season for 2024. In addition to his jazz albums, Kahn's music has been featured on TV, including on The Young and the Restless, How William Shatner Changed the World and commercials for Lexus.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it frees my mind. I was first exposed to jazz in College, listening to Kulu Se Mama by John Coltrane. I met Bill Evans when he played a club in Boston while I was in college. The best show I ever attended was Miles Davis Live at the Fillmore. The first jazz record I bought was Dave Brubeck. My advice to new listeners is keep listening, and go see live jazz. Live jazz is where it is at!
