My House Concert Story

I was first exposed to jazz when two events took place before I could tie my shoes in the early ’50s. One, my mother sitting me in the front row of a San Francisco nightclub while singing. And two, wanting to participate in a family ritual of listening to Dexter, Ella, and Bird. I’d run to get my plastic saxophone and quickly move in front of the record player. I’d rock back and forth. Romero (uncle Angel’s partner in crime). “What are you doing Rocky”? he’d say. “I’m just trying to catch the rhythm.” I've been hooked from then on.
