About Me

David W. Hansen is a drummer, percussionist, bandleader, composer-writer (BMI), business owner and entrepreneur who performs worldwide and maintains a heavy performance schedule in New Orleans. Hansen Music Productions, LLC was founded in 1994 and is a music booking agency for Louisiana artists. He has traveled, toured and performed with the Garden District Band, New Orleans Spice® Brass Band, Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Tim Laughlin and others. David was raised in British Columbia, Canada, has an associate diploma in music (1984) from Malaspina College (now Vancouver Island University) in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada; a Bachelor of Music (BM) in Jazz Studies Performance-Percussion Emphasis (1990) from the University of North Texas (formerly NTSU) in Denton, TX. He has performed professionally and taught drum lessons since 1979, moved to New Orleans in 1991 and has enjoyed performing, booking and working with the best in the area.

My Jazz Story

Began studying drums at age eight with old school rudiments and reading. Parents bought drum, percussion and jazz albums for birthdays and Christmas. Parents provided advanced lessons at Drums Only in Vancouver. Met Louie Bellson, Ed Shaughnessy, Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Gadd, Pat Metheny, Paul Wertico, Vinnie Colletta, Danny Gottlieb, William Ludwig III, Trilok Gurtu and many other amazing drummers at concerts, drum clinics and lessons. The best show I ever attended: too many to list ... live music is amazing! My advice to new listeners... "thank you for your appreciation of Jazz, America's musical gift to the world."
