About Me
Daniel Casares is a distinguished jazz guitarist, composer, and producer from A Coruña, Spain. He enrolled
at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música of A Coruña at age 10, where he was introduced to classical
guitar and the formal study of music. By age 12 Casares transitioned to the electric guitar, and he quickly
fell in love with classic rock and blues. Throughout his adolescence he trained to be a competent blues
and rock guitarist, while at the same time beginning to produce original music in his bedroom. At around
age 16, the young individual was determined to pursue a career in music.
Casares moved to Boston to attend the Berklee College Of Music from 2014-2018. It was in Boston that
the artist was introduced to jazz and decided to dedicate most of his efforts to becoming a proficient
improviser. He studied under the mentorship of Terence Blanchard, Dave Santoro, Joanne Brackeen,
Darren Barrett, Kenny Werner, Mick Goodrick, Tim Miller, and many more, graduating from the university
with Summa Cum Laude Honors. As a student he led a weekly set at the historic Wally's Jazz Cafe. After
completing his studies, the guitarist lived in New York City and was able to perform regularly as a
sideman in the city's venues and clubs. He moved back to Galicia in 2019, where he performs often as a
leader and sideman at the region's main musical venues. He completed a MA Degree in Ethnomusicology
at SOAS University of London in 2022. In recent years, the artist has performed at prestigious venues and
festivals in the United States, Europe, and India.
Casares’s style as an improviser is powerful and creative. Rooted in the jazz tradition of the 40’s, 50’s and
60’s, he also explores the sonorities of rock and the avant-garde. He has played alongside artists such as
Dave Holland, Terence Blanchard, Devin Daniels, Lluc Casares, Xan Campos, Iago Fernández, Francesco
Ciniglio, Daniele Germani, Gonzalo Del Val, and many more. In January 2021 the guitarist released
Idleness, his first album as a leader, which he produced and played all instruments on. The outing
explores his influences outside of the realm of jazz and puts forth a personal compositional voice. Casares
went on to publish over 40 albums and EPs independently since 2021, exploring a wide array of styles
while maintaining an uncompromising vision. He became proficient on drums, saxophone, keyboard, and
production in addition to guitar and electric bass, which led to him signing to the Swiss experimental
record label HOUT Records in 2022, for which he released the EP Villa Bonita (2022) and the
profoundly experimental full-length From a Cabin in the Woods (2023). He is now coming out with the
fusion-leaning album 1971 in October 2025, where he explores a futuristic approach to the music he
loved during his youth.
The artist has achieved remarkable success for an experimental jazz musician at such a young age, having
his music covered by major specialized press such as DownBeat Magazine, major press and media in
Spain such as La Voz De Galicia, El Español, or RTVE (Spanish national public television and radio), and
minor press and FM radio internationally, including appearances on NPR or the hit WFMU experimental
music show Blurred and Obscured. He has reached over 100.000 plays on streaming platforms and
over 400 album sales.
