My Jazz Story

Christopher Bakriges, www.bakriges.com, coordinates the music minor in addition to lecturing and serving as Artist-In-Residence at Elms College in Massachusetts. He holds a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from York University in Toronto and a masters in World Music and musicology from Wesleyan in Middletown, Connecticut. University. Bakriges has a particular interest in investigating how individuals and communities improvise in their lives to articulate ethnic, spiritual, and national identities. He has studied global expressions in music and dance for more than twenty-five years. As a jazz pianist and composer he has recorded 8 albums under his own name and appears as a sideman on several dozen others, and performs and lectures both nationally and in Europe.
