My Jazz Story
I am a 54 year old jazz newbie. Growing up
on a diet of progressive rock I was already
flirting around the edges but something
clicked last year and I have become a
voracious listener.As I am beginning my
journey I am dabbling in all directions, with
the Ramsay Lewis Trio, Don Ellis, Maynard
Fergusen and Errol Garner being particular
favorites. I am currently listening to jaimie
branch as I write this so I am open to
exploring all different forms.
My first jazz concert was randomly seeing 3
Leg Torso at a club in Santa Cruz in 2003. I
was in the city to see The Residents and
had a night to kill. 3 Leg Torso really
dazzled me that night and though it took
years for my jazz education to begin I look
at them as a catalyst for my burgeoning
love.
