Vibraphonist and thoughtful listener originally from Moldova.

I’m Andrei — a vibraphonist and composer. I’ve always been fascinated by artists who dared to blend musical genres, and exploring musical forms has become a personal ritual, defining how I approach music. I grew up in Chișinău, Moldova, and began studying classical piano at the age of seven. Music later took a back seat for a time, until my mid-teens, when improvised music found me. From that moment on, I knew exactly where my life’s blueprint was guiding me. I studied percussion and jazz vibraphone in Moldova, and later at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in Belgium, guided by internationally acclaimed musicians like Jan de Haas, Teun Verbruggen, Bo Van der Werf, and Kurt Van Herck. The first two and a half years at the conservatory felt familiar — my musical tastes and influences were already well established, and they didn’t change much. Over time, however, I learned one of the most important lessons for any musician: the value of searching for your own voice, something I discovered through my peers at the academy. With this in mind, I performed in trio and quartet formats at local festivals in Antwerp and at the renowned De Muze jazz club, together with colleagues from the jazz department. Life doesn’t always follow tempo markings. Four months before graduation, I stepped away from the stage for a period I never expected — an experience that reshaped both my personality and my relationship with music. Returning wasn’t easy, yet after six years away, every note I play feels like coming full circle.
