About Me

Amir Segall is a pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader based in Brooklyn. Amir was born in Israel, 1993 and grew up in Tel Aviv. From very young age, he was exposed to many musical genres varying from Classical music, Folk, Israeli music, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Brazilian Music and more. His passion for music began at a young age from his parents house. He memorized songs quickly and started playing songs on grandma’s piano. At first, Amir started to play the xylophone and pretty quickly switched to play the piano, that became his major instrument. Amir started to play classical music when he was 8 years old. As a result, he has been exposed from a young age to some of the great classical composers, such as: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Maurice Ravel and many great others. However, when Amir was exposed with Keith Jarrett and Oscar Peterson for the first time, he fell in love with jazz in general and the idea of improvising in particular. In 2012 Amir participated in a week long music summer program Rimon School and started to play in different jazz ensembles. In 2013 he began his studies at CJS, while he was studying and playing with many great musicians in the Israeli musical scene such as Ofer Ganor, Shay Zelman, Barak Mori, Yuval Cohen, Omri Mor, Yonathan Volchok and others. In 2016, Amir was offered a scholarship to attend the New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC. He graduated of the New School in 2018. Since he moved to New York he was exposed to the jazz scene in NY and fell in love with it. During this time, Amir has been performing professionally at notable venues and jazz clubs such as Club Bonafide, Mezzrow, Red Room, Williamsburg Music Center, Nublu and others. At the same time, he has collaborated with some of the greatest jazz musicians in the scene such as; Sam Yahel, John Hebert, Aaron Parks, Reggie Workman, Doug Weiss, Kevin Hays, Hal Galper, Robert Sadin, Kirk Nurock, Alison Miller, Mary Halvorson and many others.
