About Me

Ali Bey, was born August 1,1970 in Detroit Michigan. where he began playing Bass Guitar at age 11 Ali's musical development was strongly influenced by his parents, Ali's Father introduced him to Jazz, Blues, and R&B his Mother was a Gospel singer in the church where he grew up at she always encouraged Ali to study and play Gospel music Mr. Herbert Nicholson a Music Teacher at Drew Middle School in Detroit, at the time recognized talent in Ali and steered him towards Jazz, growing up listening to all types of music Ali developed a special love for traditional Jazz and Jazz Fusion. Ali's professional journey began during high school with Harold McKinney a Jazz Master and Grammy Nominated Composer and Arranger. Ali played alongside Harold McKinney around the city of Detroit for 3 years after high school Ali was introduced to Marcus Belgave well known Jazz Trumpeter and Jazz Master. Ali also played along side Marcus Belgave for 1 year. in 1989 Ali met Donald Walden A Jazz Master and Saxophonist who at the time was the jazz instructor for the City of Detroit Summer Youth program Ali Became bass player for the summer youth Jazz Orchestra for 3 years. in 2009, thee Ali Bey Quartet was Formed the Quartet is also presently Featured on his latest release entitled My Finest Hour, the members are as follows Larry Andrews, lead Guitar- Timothy Omar Stroud {Thunder} on Drums- Raphael Stantin on Saxophone- Ali Bey on Bass All Members are Currently performing in the Metro Detroit area and Perform at numerous engagements around the country as a veteran in the Music industry Ali Bey has garnered the respect and notoriety of his Constituents as an accomplished Bassist, Arranger, Composer and Performer Ali Plans to release his latest project around the first of the year 2015 future plans for Ali include Touring and Performing his latest release he will continue to educate aspiring Artist as well as reach his true calling as an established Performer.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because its my Passion I was first exposed to jazz at thee age of 10 years old I met [Mike Stern]...at the Magic Bag in Detroit Michigan The best show I ever attended was Stanley Clark The first jazz record I bought was Weather Report Heavy Weather. My advice to new listeners Keep on Listening stay open and creative. Or whatever else you have in mind.
