About Me

Alfredo Rivera is a Los Angeles-based musician. He specializes in the saxophone and woodwinds. He plays Afro-Cuban, hip-hop, reggae, rock and R&B among other genres. An alumnus of The Colburn School of Performing Arts and Hamilton High School Academy of Music, Alfredo has performed with musicians like Billy Higgins, Rufus Reid, Barry Harris, Gerald Wilson and Ozomatli among others. His discography includes appearances on Robin Thicke’s Something Else and Build An Ark’s Love Part I. His credits also include live appearances at the Playboy Jazz Festival, San Francisco Jazz Festival and UCLA Jazz Reggae Festival. He’s played in eclectic venues like The Key Club, The Jazz Bakery, Catalina Bar and Grill, Hollywood Bowl, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at Music Center and The Wiltern Theatre. Rivera has also been invited to appear on radio shows and has often been featured on documentaries about contemporary LA musicians.

Alfredo is a vital product of and contributor to the Los Angeles music scene. He has been performing professionally for over 15 years and his music comes from a place of discerning intuition. His strength lies in his ability to adapt and improvise, all the while honestly maintaining his own musicality and style. His music has an intelligence that appeals to the discerning listener but is delivered as a heartfelt performance, inviting the listener within it. While he maintains his identity, Black Maya Voodoo demonstrates how he has expanded his own sound and repertoire.
