I was born in the U.K. to English and West Indian parents and was raised in Western Canada. I originally trained as a classical pianist and singer and spent my early musical years performing with chamber vocal and early music ensembles. Following studies in Eastern Canada and Europe, I returned to my native U.K., where I have been pursuing a dual career as a musician and teacher. From 1993 onwards, I appeared in regional musical festivals, musical theatre and as a backing vocalist. From 1995 onwards, I studied jazz singing with Angela Elliott, then with Louise Gibbs. These studies were enhanced by vocal workshops with Pete Churchill, Claire Martin and Ian Shaw and Norma Winstone. I also spent two seasons at the Chelmsford Jazz Summer School in Eastern England. I eventually received both the Certificate and the Diploma in Jazz and Popular Music Studies, after having studied at the renowned Goldsmiths College in London. In 2000, I formed, fronted and arranged for Eleda, a contemporary jazz and fusion quintet who made their debut at the Chelmsford Arts Festival in 2001. Since then, I have worked with several established and new jazz, popular and world musicians on the UK music scene. I am currently touring with my current ensemble Wilding & Co, performing in jazz and acoustic venues in and around London. I have just recorded my debut concept CD of originals and jazz/popular standards. Currently in post-production, the CD is due out in the spring 2004 on my indie label, Blue Dawn. In addition to more performances, 2004 will mark the debut of some of my instrumental compositions, as commissioned by rising jazz stars HeadsTogether. TOUR INFO 2004: Coming soon.
