Rues désertes

MarieVeronique Bourque
Duration: 6:57

I composed Rues désertes in the midst of the pandemic. Isolated in my house in Regina, I imagined the crowded streets of Old Quebec where I come from, completely deserted by tourists and citizens. This image which seemed unreal to me, I gradually gave it meaning. The more I wrote, the more I realized that I had a deep empathy for this city that I was reconnecting with through my mind. Little by little I mourned to find again the streets of before while feeling some comfort. I thought that nothing would be the same across the world, that people had and were going to change just like me, but that a new day was still dawning with its hopes. Rues désertes, it is first of all the tradition of the wooden spoons mixed with that of Morse communications. The old port of Quebec is not far away and reminds us of the history of this city. The acrobats do their pirouettes in front of the amazed children. The artists join the ball: musicians, sculptors and painters or designers. The crowd creates a breaking wave in the streets. The murmur amplifies and becomes sweet harmony. Flute: Marie-Véronique Bourque; Piano: Clément Robichaud; Drums and percussions: Olivier Bussières; Electric bass: Juan Cruz.
