Eddy Goltz Jazz Navigators: jazz & blues, Ellington, Brazil, Ray Charles, Afro-beat, originals... earthy grooves for various settings and occasions... such as the 2010 Shanghai Music Festival. Eddy Goltz (guitar/piano/vocals/composer) studied in Oberlin USA with Wendell Logan, Thad Jones, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, Roland Hanna, Leroy Jenkins, Betty Carter and Abe Laboriel. He also had classes with Barry Harris, Christopher Parkening, Jeff Van, Leo Brauwer and Ramnad Ragavan, exploring Indian Music, Fado, Flamenco and classical guitar, earning a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Minnesota in 1982. Goltz played solo as well as in big bands, from Afro-Cuban or ethnic to operas or orchestral productions in the USA, Canada, Turkey, Morocco, Brazil, Indonesia, southern and East Africa, the Caribbean, Holland, Italy, Spain and Portugal, his home for 20 years. He conducted the premiere of “100 Years of George Gershwin” and “Hommage to Louis Armstrong” at Lisbon EXPO, played with the Metropolitan, Gulbenkian and Portuguese Symphony Orchestras, and taught at the Luso-German School, Madrid’s Taller de Musicos, Angra Conservatory and JZ School in Shanghai. Jazz Navigators aside, Eddy Goltz has also performed with David Murray, Ute lemper, Placido Domingo, Tito Paris, Jacinta, Mario Laginha, Maria João, Helio Delmiro, Dulce Pontes, Jose Cid, Laurentiu Ivan-Coca, Angela Hagenbach, Sanford Moore, JD Steele, Bill Goodwin, and Latin-jazz ensembles such as the Havana Jazz Big Band and Zambomba in Lisbon and New York. In China he played major venues with Carol Chang, Theo Croker, Coco Zhao, Huang JianYi, Boyana Walsh, Peng Fei, Tinho Pereira, Willow Neilson, Buddha, Alice Day, Donald Jackson, Kathy Lamar, Andy Hunter, Bill Heid, Alec Haavek, Gilbert Kuppusami, Playerz Gotta Play, Rolf Becker and the late Ernesta Dunbar and Sugar Mama. Goltz’s group Jazz Navigators has included musicians such as trumpeter Laurent Filipe, guitarist Tahina Justin Raz, pianists Andre Dequech, Antonio Palma and Sean Higgins, drummers Mark Holen, Acacio “Salero” Cardoso, Daniel DaVersa and Carlos Vieira, and saxophonists like Ze Menezes, Rao Kyao and Wink Pettis. Cited as a “great jazz guitarist” by Acoustic Guitar, Goltz recorded his own World-Jazz DVD in Shanghai in 2010, available in 2011.
