Rusty Aceves

Rusty Aceves is a freelance drummer, percussionist and writer working in the San Francisco Bay Area.

About Me

I've had jazz in my life since I was born. Some of my earliest memories are of experiencing Buddy Rich's and Stan Kenton's big bands when I was a child, and the mindblowing experience of seeing Oscar Peterson from three feet away and being sure I just saw something monumental. I was 10.

I began playing drums at 11, thanks to the presence of my brother's unused drumset in the house and access to my father's and siblings' record collections, and it was a straight shot from there through junior high and high school bands to a Music Major in college.

Since then, I've been performing steadily as a jazz musician, rock musician, symphonic percussionist and theater musician throughout the San Francisco area and beyond. I am also an active Thereminist.

My Favorites

  1. John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
  2. Sonny Sharrock - Ask The Ages
  3. Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch
  4. Eric Dolphy - Last Date
  5. Ornette Coleman - Change of the Century
  6. Old & New Dreams - Playing
  7. Charlie Haden - The Montreal Tapes, Vol.2
  8. Tom Waits - Bone Machine
  9. Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
