Kerensa Gray

"Kerensa is a very dynamic vocalist with incredible range. Mastering such styles as jazz, gospel, and pop, she is fresh and innovative. A real treat to hear!"

About Me

2009 Billie Holiday Vocal Competition Winner and 2008 and 2009 Momentum Award Jazz Artist of the Year Finalist Kerensas Gray has shared the stage with artists such as Stellar Award Winner Isaiah Thomas and opened for Grammy and Dove award winners CeCe Winans and Vickie Winans and serves as guest vocalist for the Drew Davidsen Band. Finding her voice first in string studies as a gifted violin student, Kerensa began working with Frostburg State University orchestra while still attending middle school. These early years fostered an unquenchable love for music and encouraged a budding artist to discover the music of her own soul. Burning with passion and a desire to share with complete transparency; this composer and vocalist harnesses that which we all yearn for - truth without compromise. Constantly inspired by the challenges and gifts of the everyday experience, Kerensa’s music finds balance in her ability to skilfully interweave melodies of jazz, blues and folk music into a sound that is undeniably and uniquely her while her talent as a gifted vocalist unearths yet unseen perspectives into the standards that are the soundtracks to our lives.

My Jazz Story

Published on: 2019-05-15

I love jazz because of the ever changing conversation and experimentation. Jazz is the language of freedom. I was first exposed to jazz through gospel; one melds into the other in my opinion and they share the same root system. I found Billie Holiday and never looked back. My advice to new listeners is to listen to everything! If you hate it, fine, but give it a listen. Expand your musical vocabulary. But above all find music that brings you joy!

My House Concert Story

I have had the pleasure of both attending AND hosting jazz house concerts and I LOVE them! The intimacy of a house concert is the perfect atmosphere for the free flow conversation that is jazz.
