About Me

Howard Mandel was inspired to write about jazz by the liner notes of Nat Hentoff, Terry Martin, John Litweiler, and others, and has himself written a few dozen—more than posted here—since his first, for Muse Records circa 1980. He is the author of Future Jazz, and Miles Ornette Cecil - Jazz Beyond Jazz, senior editor of The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Jazz and Blues, and The Definitive Encyclopedia of Jazz and Blues. arts reporter for National Public Radio (1985 - 2018), associate adjunct professor New York University, 1987 - 2014), blogger at (JazzBeyondJazz), and President of the Jazz Journalists Association.
