My Jazz Story

A jazz drummer based in Tokyo, originally from Itoshima City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Deeply influenced by the aesthetics of American black jazz from the 1940s to 1960s, such as bebop and hard bop, I pursue a playing style that values swing feel and improvisation. Encountered jazz at age 18 and taught myself drums through records and live performances, Rather than attending music college. After moving to Tokyo in 2003, I began serious performance activities primarily within the city. I have performed in over 100 live shows annually and collaborated with numerous musicians across generations. Currently, I lead the hard bop-focused jazz band “Asian Soul Boppers,” performing regularly with monthly live shows as the core. I also work as a session drummer, continuing to play on diverse stages including clubs, live houses, and jazz festivals. Beyond performing, he teaches jazz drumming, instructing students ranging from beginners to those pursuing professional careers. Lessons focus on practical approaches, carefully covering swing feel, comping (backing), and solo construction. Private lessons are currently available, primarily in the Tokyo area.
