My Jazz Story

Hubert is a curious composer, always eager for discovery. Throughout the 1990s he accompanied such jazz legends as Harold Land, Robin Eubanks, Steve Lacy, and Glenn Ferris, as well as becoming one of the driving forces of the alternative jazz scene in Paris. A bass and double bass player, an instigator of projects, he has performed and led master classes and workshops around the world from Finland to Algeria, from Canada to Egypt, from Norway to Senegal, as well as in the United States. Always giving as much as he gets. He is a member of Stéphane Payen’s group, Thôt, and of Kartet, in which the compositions of each member create a sound universe that revitalises the languages and improvisation of music. In 2005, he was named Guitarist and Bass Magazine’s “Revelation” of the year for his solo double bass album; other distinctions were to follow as he embarked on collaborations with Indian- American saxophonist, Rudresh Mahanthappa, digital artist Tom Mays, video artist, Renaud Rubiano, American hip-hop artist, Mike Ladd and Senegalese percussionist, Ibrahima Diassé.
