My Jazz Story
Classical music was my doorway into jazz. After starting with the Italian Baroque, I worked my way fairly chronologically up to contemporary composers, which led me to discover ECM's New Series imprint. Only then did I encounter the main label's vast offerings, which introduced me to the world of Norwegian jazz, and to such groundbreaking artists as Keith Jarrett, Charles Lloyd, and Dave Holland. Since then, I have been working my way through the back catalogue and beyond in an effort to gain a deeper, more physical sense of this soulful art form. Approaching jazz through a classical lens has allowed me to see their interconnectedness. In an effort to elucidate the same, I am reviewing every ECM album ever released at ecmreviews.com.
