My Jazz Story

I met local jazz piano player (The Late) Chappy Washington and I love jazz because...I was introduced to so many fine Philly performers and piano players who embraced me and took me under their wings and told me to never stop singing! Because of them I have been exposed to so many different phases and levels of jazz from Traditional to modern. I was fortunate enough to meet and work with many of the Philly's Finest piano players who opened doors and paved the way for others. People like the amazing and late Chappy (Donald Washington Jr.), took the time out to teach and he taught me to read chord changes in one night as well as how to grow as an artist. He introduced me to people like Piano players/pianists Sid Simmons, Cyrus Bey, Trudy Pitts, Eddie Green, Mose Davis, Gerald Price, Shirley Scott and Lumpy King. Chappy's passion for music opened my eyes and my imagination. It is the magic of what they all shared with so many others that makes me smile and bring back so many beautiful memories and I am reminded of how fortunate I am to have either worked with or been introduced to such jazz royalty. They are all gone but Certainly not forgotten because of what I've learned from them I will always have a song to sing. We will be remembering all of these great and deserving Philly Legends On Sunday June 12th at The Crab Tavern in Darby PA from 4 to 8 pm.
