About Me

Drummer Tom Cohen, a fixture on the Philadelphia music scene for many years, began his musical journey at age seven in Newark, New Jersey, later studying with jazz legend Tony Williams. He moved to Philadelphia in the late 1970s, joining the acclaimed fusion group Catalyst and collaborating with jazz greats like saxophonist Odean Pope and organist Joey DeFrancesco. Versatile in jazz, fusion, Brazilian, and world music, Cohen’s extensive discography includes recording partnerships with saxophonist Chris Potter, guitarists Kurt Rosenwinkel and Jef Lee Johnson, and the group Minas. Tom Cohen continues to take chances, performing, recording, and inspiring new generations of musicians in Philadelphia and beyond
