Tom Alexander

South Florida-based Keyboardist/Composer, Tom Alexander has scored for film, television, and radio and performs solo and with his fusion band, Earth Code.

About Me

Keyboardist/Composer, Tom Alexander is a 30 year veteran of music, in particular fusion jazz/world/funk. Tom grew up in a musical family and was exposed to classical music by his father. His uncle was a professional jazz pianist and drummer and Tom studied with him for a short period. However, he is essentially self taught. His solo piano CD “What’s Ahead?” was released in 2001 and was featured in a 20 minute profile piece on NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday with Liane Hansen in June of that year receiving excellent reviews. Since then, he's released fusion and solo piano albums including “Flying Against the Time Zones,” “Cinemusique,” and “Overbrook Avenue.” In 2018, Earth Code, the group he co-founded, released their fusion album, ”Tones From the Middle Distance.” He has also scored for motion pictures as well as TV shows and commercials. He is a partner at KETO Music Group Studios in Miami. He lives in South Florida with his wife and son.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because...Once I heard the rhythm and expansive harmonies, I could never turn away. I was first exposed to jazz...when I heard my uncle play piano at our family-run movie theatre on the old upright behind the screen. I met [musician name]...Chick Corea. The best show I ever attended was...Zawinul at Carnegie Hall The first jazz record I bought was...School Days (Stanley Clarke) My advice to new listeners...Whatever you "think" jazz is, you're probably wrong. Listen to everything. Or whatever else you have in mind.
