About Me
Born in the Mt.Airy section of Philadelphia,PA on June 30, 1970. Growing up in Mt.Airy music had permeated my family residence. My father was big on Soul Music (James Brown), but had a huge sweet tooth for Jazz. My mother was a singer in her church choir. I Started playing the drums at the age of 5 when I would create a drum set out of beach buckets and toy chest and bang on them with my mom's clothes pins. The first song I recall playing to was Norman Connor's You are my Starship. I went through a series of Sears catalogue drums between the ages 6 and 13 until my father really saw the need to purchase a real drum set for me. My father purchased my first real drum set at the age of 13 and and shortly afterwards, at the age of 15,I was off and running since, trying to be a part of any and every group that I could. I'll never forget what my father lamented the day he brought home my first real drum set and set it up. I started playing as he walked away and he said, that boy can play. My father had the most influence on me as a jazz drummer. I would spend endless summers at my grandmother's house in Nicetown, where my father would bring these new records by and play them early in the morning. He would play albums like B's Brew from Miles, Herbie Hancock's album Sextant and others. This music really influenced my music direction and jazz became my vice in life. I started exploring the likes of John Coltrane with Elvin Jones on drums (Wow!), Miles, Jack DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock (Head Hunters), Tony Williams, Billy Cobham and Lenny White (to name my greatest musical influences). Currently playing with a group based out of the Philadelphia suburbs called Hidden Treaure.
