Ted harms likes music
My first musical experience of note was buying the original Star Wars soundtrack, though I probably never listened to more than the main title & imperial attack (aka the darth vader music) tunes. But after AM radio and K-Tel's Goofy Greats, it cracked the door open. My gateway drug to jazz is Bill Frisell, who I started listening to in the early-90's. Naked City & Power Tools appealed both to the brains for jazz & the energy for rock. Been following him since and his depth & breadth have been refreshing. I started playing freaky music in '02 as a double bass was a birthday gift and started attending a weekly improv get-together at the Univ. of Guelph, led by Jesse Stewart. In 2006 I co-founded a local community-based improv group that lasted about 5 years before sputtering out. I lead an ensemble - the VOC Silent Film Harmonic - that accompanies silent films with original/creative/improvised soundtracks and I'm back doing some regular improv jamming. I started writing about freaky music to get free tickets to the local freaky music shows.
