From San Francisco, Steven Mayers is a guitarist, writer, and teacher, as well as a permanent student of jazz.
I was born in San Mateo, California, and as a child lived in Connecticut, Spain, and Switzerland. I started playing the guitar at the age of twelve as I became interested in music, mostly rock, as well as blues, jazz, and classical music. I have divided my time between music and literature, studying English at the University of Oregon and Comparative Literature at San Francisco State University and teaching English at City College of San Francisco and Rhetoric at the University of San Francisco. When I am not teaching, I spend my time performing guitar, composing, writing and reading.
