Steve Hubback

About Me

Steve is from Barry in South Wales. He became involved with jazz after attending Barry Jazz Summer schools in the late 1970's organised by Tony Oxley. Professional since 1980. He has toured all over Europe. Iceland and South Korea. He has worked with many of Europe's best improvisors.

He is currently working together with Celtic harpist Nadia Birkenstock. Various groups with George Haslam. Leads his own group Metal Moves who perform his music on his self created sound sculptures. He is in a new Italian quartet called Athanor together with Antonio Bertoni on double bass. David Merlino on vibes and Stefano Pastor on violin.

Steve also makes a living as a blacksmith and bronzesmith. He invented and pioneered gong and cymbal sculptures in the early 1990's. He exhibits his work all over Europe and his creations are played by many of the worlds foremost percussionists including Paul Clarvis. Dame Evelyn Glennie. Birgit Lokke. Knut Finsrud. Marilyn Mazur. Paolo Vinaccia. Paal Nielsen Love. Welsh National Opera. Snore Bjerck and many others.
