Steve Fentriss

About Me

I've been playing and composing Jazz since 6th grade. I play drums, and some of my great musical influences are Chick Corea, John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett, Max Roach, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, Jeff Hamilton, and many others. I'm the regular drummer for PHIL OGILVIE'S RHYTHM KINGS [hyperlink to: http://porktheband.com], a 1920's style Hot Jazz band that's co-led by James Dapogny. I've logged stage time with such jazz greats as Louis Smith, Sunny Wilkinson, Randy Johnston, Tad Weed, Rick Roe, and even a little bit with Joey DeFrancesco. I recently was named an IAJE/NFAA CLIFFORD BROWN/STAN GETZ ALL-STAR [hyperlink to: http://artsalumni.net/awardee04/Jazz/index.htm]. As CBSG All Star, I attended ARTS WEEK [hyperlink to: http://artsawards.org] in Miami, FL and the annual IAJE CONFERENCE [hyperlink to: www.iaje.org/ac_intro.asp], where the group opened for the Dave Holland Quintet. The music on my debut CD, EARLY LAST MORNING [hyperlink to: http://fentriss music.com/discography.htm], is best described as original modern jazz that's fun to listen to. It features the talents of Detroit area greats Paul Finkbeiner, Vincent York, Chris Smith, Mark Kieswetter, and PAUL KELLER [hyperlink to: http://pkorecords.com].
