About Me

Since 2007 we've brought superb jazz to Leeds, and we've shown the world what Leeds can do too!

We now run over 100 concerts per year, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons Our main base is the Seven Arts venue in Chapel Allerton, Leeds We also programme some concerts jointly with Howard Assembly Room next to the Grand Theatre in Leeds City Centre, and at two festival jazz stages – Leeds Jazz Festival and Chapel Allerton Arts Festival. We have a “Taking Part” series for people of all ages who want to play, sing or just find out more about jazz- with jam sessions, jazz workshops, and the Instant World Orchestra, all held at Northlight Arts in Chapel Allerton, a Jazz Voices choir and a schools jazz education programme. Our music is mainly contemporary jazz but we include some more traditional jazz, blues, latin and big band performances as well. We have picked up a couple of awards on the way – the Jazz Yorkshire award and the UK Parliamentary Jazz award for best jazz venue. 2027 is our twentieth anniversary – we have some special events planned, watch this space! My Jazz Story

I love jazz because... it swings I was first exposed to jazz... through listening to Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames on the radio... I met [musician name]...Ray Brown, Wayne Shorter, Abdullah Ibrahim, Gerry Mulligan etc etc - too many to mention through Jazz Playing, Jazz Promotion and Jazz Radio The best show I ever attended was... Tom Waites at Sheffield's Leadmill 1984 The first jazz record I bought was... Fats Waller, Dinah My advice to new listeners... Keep your ears wide open Or whatever else you have in mind. I've been a jazz promoter/volunteer all my life - wonderful experience!

My House Concert Story

I've organised thousands of concerts during my life in London, Sheffield and Leeds, UK , played on hundreds of gigs, some with big names like Harry Edison, Jimmy Witherspoon, Kenny Davern, Bob Wilbur - mainly on double bass, played on some TV shows, been a radio Jazz presenter at Radio Hallam - and done this all in my spare time
