Steve Brickman

Steve Brickman is a contemporary jazz saxophonist, pianist, and composer of many styles and genre's. Growing up, he always knew that the saxophone had something special to it. First playing piano in second grade, then a year of violin, Steve was allowed to start playing the sax in elementary school. After he began to play with his math teacher before school and listen to jazz, his life was changed forever. In high school. he took classes at the New England Conservatory Prep. School studying with such people as: Dave Zoffer, Rick Mclaughlin, and Jeremy Udden. He has also played with such artists as Roy Hargrove, Bucky Pizzarelli, John Medeski, Marcus Miller, Wycliffe Gordon, James Moody, Poncho Sanchez, Geoffrey Keezer, DJ Logic, Jeff Coffin, Ira Sullivan, Mark Whitfield, Mario Pavone, George Schuller, James Carter, Bobby Sparks and more. In 2006, he won the “Robert Ayasse Memorial Jazz Ensemble Composition Contest” for his composition “March of the Maracas”. He has also won two IAJE awards; An Outstanding Musicianship Award and an MVP award at a regional jazz band competition sponsored by the IAJE. He has also won the Judges choice award at the Berklee College of Music jazz band competition in 2006. Steve has studied saxophone with: Don Braden, Harry Skolar, Tony Malaby, Claire Daily, Gary Keller, Troy Roberts, Steve Pardo and others. He has also studied composition with: Lansing McCloskey, Dennis Kam, Fred DeSena, Bob Gower, Joris Teepe, Mario Pavone, Peter Madson, Dave Ballou, Russ Johnson, Tony Malaby, George Schuller, and Jack Walrath. Currently attending the University of Miami, Steve is studying both Composition and Studio Music and Jazz for Saxophone. In addition to school, he leads his own group called the Steve Brickman Organ Trio.
