Improvisation enlightens truth to composition for experimental trumpet player Stephanie Richards. Embracing unique extended trumpet techniques and eccentric juxtaposition of genres, Stephanieʼs theatrical tendencies often explore collaborations of sight, sound and movement. An emerging bright talent to the world of new and improvised music, New York- based trumpeter and composer Stephanie Richards has performed as soloist from the stages of Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to MTV sets with Kanye West and Common. A member of the highly acclaimed Asphalt orchestra, Stephanie has worked with artist Yoko Ono, David Byrne and St. Vincent. She is winner of the International Trumpet Guild Young Artist Award and as a young Canadian soloist earned first prize in the National Canadian Music Competition. Stephanieʼs academic credits include the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Eastman School of Music, McGill University and the California Institute of the Arts. Championing new music and multi-disciplinary art, Stephanie has premiered new works across North America and in the UK. She has held residencies at Stanford University and the University of San Diego. As an instructor Stephanie is continuing faculty at the Brooklyn Music School, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and the Academy of Creative Education in Hollywood, CA.
