Simeon Abbott
Multi-instrumentalist specializing in free-improv and modern jazz.
About Me
Simeon Abbott is a multi-instrumentalist, composer most active in Toronto's jazz, free improv and indie pop/rock communities. He completed a bachelor's degree in jazz studies at Humber College under the tutelage of Brian Dickinson and Dave Restivo, as well as Pat LaBarbara, Don Thompson, and Kieran Overs. 2008 saw Abbott's debut release as a leader, a compilation of his early jazz compositions called A History of Ideas, followed by two improvised albums in 2009; Zebra Wood (solo prepared guitar) and The Localization of Noise and its Endowment with Form (duo with Colin Fisher on guzheng). Flowing from odd-meter groove to swing to ECM-like lyricism to free improv, his playing seeks to abolish the typical in jazz.
