My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it imagines a world where imagination is currency. I was first exposed to jazz, believe it or not, through my brother's Zappa albums. Then a friend played a Stanley Clarke album, and the lookingglass was breached. The best show I ever attended was Dexter Gordon in a church... four people in the audience, four people in the band and a performance that made me a believer. The first jazz record I bought was Return to Forever, Romantic Warrior. My advice to new listeners is to lsiten to the full amazing history of jazz, then look forward (never back) - jazz's best years are (hopefully) ahead of us.
