I love jazz for countless reasons, but a couple are that it's a music form perfect for musicians to emote without explicit words, and that it involves so much improvisation and counter play between musicians. I was first exposed to jazz as an adolescent spending time in cafes where there was live jazz and hearing my dad talk highly about Monk and Mingus, among others. The first jazz record I bought was either In A Silent Way or Sketches of Spain. Any given night I'll listen to swing and hard bop to avante garde to fusion to spiritual and soul to contemporary and cross-genre jazz. *but these words don't begin to tell how much I love "jazz" and how important I think it is to the world*
